Guru Scandals

Posted by Baba Ramdev Admirer

Swami Ramdev is perhaps one of the most scientific yogis one will find across India. When the Nithyananda scandal was exposed on television, the media rushed to interview top spiritual leaders of India. This list (not comprehensive) included Sri Sri Ravishankar (of Art of Living Foundation), Morari Bapu, Sadhguru (Isha Foundation), and the most controversial of all, Swami Ramdev.

Till date, Baba Ramdev has been in tons of unsought controversies, including the one where Vrinda Karak accused Swamiji and his Patanjali Yogpeeth of using human skulls to produce "Ayurvedic" medicines. Apparently, this accusation was devised to vilify Swamiji and tarnish his public image. Most possibly, it could have been a politically inspired attack to "teach Swamiji a lesson" for bluntly speaking against the blatantly corrupt politicians of India.

Vrinda was invited to visit Patanjali Yogpeeth's research/manufacturing facilities and know the truth for herself. Soon enough, she was proved wrong and was hardly seen on television since then.

Coming to the point: When Swamiji was questioned as to why so many guru-scandals are emerging in our spiritually gifted India, he expressed his deepest regret (without throwing personal allegations on Nithyananda) and urged people to adopt a more scientific approach in choosing their guru. To be specific, before we choose our guru, we should carefully scrutinize his entire (personal and public) life in the past 20-30 years. If there hasn't been a single blot on his character and personality, then he is genuine. Secondly, we must not give in our singular ability to think. We must not become superstitious and believe everything that the saint says. Instead, we must examine, analyze, and then accept the statements if our logic and hearts conform to them.

Having said thus, we must remember that after we have consciously chosen our guru, we must completely surrender ourselves to him. To continually harbor doubts against him is to invite darkness so far as spiritual life is concerned.
